I’ve been GREEN this summer by biking just about everywhere instead of driving! Rather than taking out the car to run to the bank or the store, my mom and I bike every day to town to do our errands We’re lessening our carbon footprint by eliminating TONS of gasoline consumption–we’ve totaled about 600 miles so far this summer! Biking also helps us stay fit and save money. I definitely encourage everyone to take the old bike out of storage and go for a ride whenever you can! It’s so relaxing and the benefits are endless!
ALITA
In an effort to make my lifestyle more eco-friendly, this summer my family and I worked on several “green” projects. First, my entire family helped each other to make gardens in their backyards with various vegetables and plants. The gardens were a great success, leading to numerous amounts of cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, squash and lots of other food. Second, I made a lot of eco-friendly jewelry to wear back to school out of pop tabs, garage sale items, bottle caps, old buttons, zippers, and items that would normally be thrown away. Third, my cousins and I bought clothes from vintage and second hand shops. The clothes are both cute and environmentally friendly. Fourth, I take all our aluminum cans to a recycling center down the street every week and also recycle all our paper items, since we had a lot of unnecessary paper from past school years and notes when I cleaned out our basement. Lastly, we have stopped buying plastic bottles and every family member now owns an aluminum BPA free reuseable water bottle! Even though some of the contributions my family and I have made seem kind of minuscule, it’s a big start on making our lives much more eco-friendly in hope that we can preserve the beautiful world we live in.
