We can’t always count on concerts to be as green as the Vans Warped Tour, so here are some things you can do to reduce your personal environmental impact before, during and after concerts!
Before
- Bring a backpack or a big reusable shopping bag to put things in.
- Bring a trash bag to pick up recyclables, in case there isn’t a readily available recycling bin.
- Pack a reusable water bottle and a lunch or snack in your backpack. This will save money and the environment! Remember to use tupperware and reusable packaging, rather than foil and paper bags.
- Travel together with friends or street team members.
- If you can, walk or ride a bike to the show or use public transportation (bus, train, subway). If you can’t do that, carpool.
- Buy and print your tickets at home. You will save time and money, plus, you can print on 100% recycled copy paper!
During
- Pick up any trash or recyclables you see laying around. Place them in a bag and dispose of them correctly. It sucks having to pick up after other people, but just know that you’re doing the right thing.
- If you are going to buy merchandise, when you do it on site it has less impact than if you wait to buy it and have it shipped to you. Since you aren’t purchasing it online, the carbon footprint and waste will be lessened.
- If possible, choose an eco-friendly option for merchandise.
- Check out the non-profit section of the vendors. It’s a great way to become informed and to get involved in some good causes.
- Tell people about Incredibly Green and our eco-mission. Printable flyers are available HERE. Please use 100% recycled paper and print only what you will use.
- Sport your Incredibly Green/Glamour Kills collaboration t-shirt to raise awareness and show your support!
After
- Stick around an extra 10 minutes after the show and help pick up recyclables. If they don’t have recycling bins readily available, bring a trash bag, fill it with recyclables at the show, then bring it home with you to recycle.
- Recycle all of the paper flyers that were handed to you that you do not keep.
- Purchase music on iTunes from the bands you saw and liked, rather than purchasing physical CDs. Each month, over 45 tons of CDs become obsolete – outdated or unwanted – and end up in landfills. Purchasing music online not only saves you money, but also keeps CDs out of our landfills!
